On IIMC faculty since 1993
K.M.Shrivastava, professor news agency journalism, is a media professional with significant experience in different types of media who joined media academics in 1985. He has been head of the department of journalism and mass communication Punjabi University, Patiala and course director of External Affairs Ministry sponsored course for foreign journalists at IIMC, New Delhi. He also edited Communicator and Sanchar Madhyam at IIMC, New Delhi and now brings out Media Mind: Occasional Papers from IIMC, Dhenkanal.
He was elected to the International Council of International Association of Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) in Sydney (1996) and Singapore (2000). As journalist he had covered NAM and CHOGM Summits in early 1980s. He was IAMCR delegate to the UN World Summit on Information Society (Geneva, December 2003).
His IAMCR papers include Kashmir: Lessons for Media (Seoul, 1994) and Kargil: Triumph of Media Freedom Policy (Singapore 2000).
Besides IAMCR conferences, he also spoke at conferences organised by Moscow State University (1995, 2002), Canberra University (1996, 1999), University of Leicester (2000), British Film Institute (2001), University of Tempere, Finland (2002), International Institute of Sociology (1997, 2001) and Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC), Singapore (1994, 2000). Chaired a session at AMIC conference in Manila (2001) and participated in International Press Institute conference in Vienna (2002) and Warsaw (2004). He spoke and chaired a session at the Dialogue on Cultural Diversity at Forum Barcelona (2004).
His books on media: News Reporting and Editing (1987, fourth revised edition 2003), Radio and TV Journalism (1989), Media Issues (1991), Media Towards 21st Century (1998). International publications include several book chapters, and an invited paper on Media and War in online Global Media Journal hosted by Prudue University Calumet, Hammond, Indiana, USA (Fall 2003)
