Diploma Course in Development Journalism

IIMC conducts a prestigious Diploma Course in Development Journalism for mid-career journalists from Non-aligned and Developing Countries. The course is organized under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) and the Special Commonwealth African Assistant Plan (SCAAP) programmes of the Ministry of External Affairs. This course, which is of four months duration, is organized twice a year from January to April and again from August to December every year.

The course objectives are achieved through adopting a pedagogical programme consisting of classroom lectures by the Institutes own faculty, eminent scholars and media professionals; making presentations; undertaking practical assignments in association with professional organizations; and bringing out collectively a print journal Echo towards the end of the course. Study Tours and visits to development oriented NGOs form an integral part of the course, enabling the participants to relate classroom teachings to practical realities. The course curriculum includes issues such as child rights, gender, environment, trade, health, foreign policy and freedom of media.

So far, the Institute has trained 1,322 participants from 113 different countries.
