Prof. (Dr.) Shashwati Goswami
Prof. Shashwati Goswami is the Regional Director of the North-Eastern Regional Campus of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (Deemed of be University) located in Aizawl, Mizoram. Prof Goswami joined IIMC, Delhi as an Associate Professor in July 2008.
Before joining IIMC she was a journalist almost 14 years being associated with varied media organizations including India’s national radio broadcaster, All India Radio (AIR), British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Media Action, District Primary Education Programme (DPEP) etc.
She is an alumna of Jawaharlal Nehru University (PhD), Miranda House, University of Delhi (MA) and Cotton College, Gauhati University (BA Hons).
As an academic, she has received fellowships from various international research and academic institutions including Panos Institute of South Asia (2007-08), Rockefeller Archive Centre, Sleepy Hollow, New York (2013) and was Scholar of the Study of the US Institute (SUSI) on Journalism and Media (2014) in Ohio University, USA.
Prof. Goswami’s has headlined eight major research projects as the Head of the Department of Communication Research at IIMC. Her key areas of research and teaching are political economy of media, critical cultural theories, digital labour theory, health communication, women’s studies, media theory, development and conflict-zone journalism, communication research, regional television and community radio.
She is a well published scholar having more than 15 research articles in peer-reviewed journals and two published books to her credit. The 2024 book titled Family Planning Communication in India The Actors and the Acts has been published by Routledge UK/USA (https://www.routledge.com/Family-Planning-Communication-in-India-The-Actors-and-the-Acts/Goswami/p/book/9781032436326). Presently she is working on her forthcoming book focusing on Digital Labour and AI.
