The Western Regional Centre of IIMC was established at Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University campus in 2011. In the beginning, Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism (English) course was introduced. The Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism (Marathi) was introduced in 2017 to produce professionals for Marathi language media. Then in 2022, a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism (Hindi) course was introduced. All these courses have earned a high reputation as the pass out students are pursuing careers in leading media organisations of the country.

The Centre is situated in the sprawling lush green, scenic locale at Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, around 5 km from Amravati Railway Station. It is a residential campus with an academic-cum-administrative block, students’ hostel, and other facilities. The Centre has dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff and is continuously striving to earn glory through innovative approach in teaching. It is all set to have its own building on a sprawling 15-acre land allotted by the Maharashtra Government in Badnera locality. Presently, there are 20 seats in English Journalism, 20 in Marathi journalism and 20 in Hindi Journalism. However, the number of seats in all these courses have been increased to 30 seats in each course from the Academic session 2024-25.

Facilities

Conference Hall: The Centre has a fully air-conditioned conference hall well-equipped for online conferencing and lectures.

Classroom: All classrooms in the Centre are air-conditioned and are equipped with comfortable furniture, internet and other communication accessories.

Computer Lab: A fully air-conditioned computer lab is available in the academic block. The lab is fully equipped for attending online classes.

Hostel: Limited hostel facility is available for girls and boys with canteen and mess facilities in the campus. Efforts are made to accommodate most of the students, however, the students who don’t get accommodation in the hostel can easily find rented accommodation in nearby localities.

Fitness and Recreation: Since the Centre is located in Amravati University premises, it does not have its own gym at the moment. However, students can use the swimming pool, athletic track, and badminton court of the university to keep themselves healthy and fit.

Free Wi-Fi: The Centre has a free Wi-Fi facility for IIMC students both in the academic block as well as in hostels.

Library: The Centre has a fully functional mass communication library with a collection of titles in Marathi, English and Hindi. The library subscribes to various newspapers and magazines in English, Marathi and Hindi. To facilitate online reading and reference, internet access is also provided to students through computer terminals installed in the library and the computer lab.
