About Sanchar Madhyam
Sanchar Madhyam (ISSN: 2321-2608) is a leading peer-reviewed Hindi research journal published by the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (New Delhi). The journal maintains high standards in the selection and publication of content focused on communication, media, journalism, and related issues. First published in 1980, it has emerged as a prestigious platform for the publication of diverse perspectives, commentaries, book reviews, and original research papers in the fields of communication, media, and journalism in Hindi. It publishes original academic research and analyses on all aspects of media studies. Upholding the highest standards of academic research, Sanchar Madhyam follows a rigorous and impartial peer-review process for all submitted research papers and articles before publication. The journal is published by the Publications Division of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication.
Objectives and Scope
Sanchar Madhyam primarily publishes academic research and analytical articles on all aspects of media and communication studies.
Publication Frequency
Sanchar Madhyam is published four times a year: January–March, April–June, July–September, and October–December.
The following categories of manuscripts are published in Sanchar Madhyam:
Original Research Articles
Research papers in this category should be between 4,000 and 5,000 words in length and typed in double spacing. They must include an abstract of no more than 250 words. Manuscripts should be prepared exclusively in Unicode font and should present a comprehensive account of the research undertaken. Any photographs, graphs, tables, or illustrations associated with the research must be submitted along with their original source files (such as Excel files). Authors should ensure that all images are of high resolution so that print quality is not compromised. Research papers submitted in PDF format will not be accepted.
Short Research Articles
Short research articles should not exceed 2,000 words (approximately 4–5 double-spaced pages). These manuscripts must also be typed in Unicode font and should be based on completed research studies. This category may include fact-based research articles related to the development of new technologies. The abstract for such articles should be between 80 and 100 words.
Research Reviews
Review articles submitted under this category should include an introduction, literature review, research findings, and a critical assessment of the shortcomings of the research under review. They should also provide recommendations for addressing those limitations so that future researchers may build upon and improve the existing body of work.
Book Reviews
Sanchar Madhyam publishes reviews of books related to journalism and mass communication (word limit: 1,500 words). Reviews of books from other disciplines such as social sciences, social work, anthropology, arts, and related fields may also be considered, provided that the title is relevant to media studies or that at least 40 percent of the book's content pertains to media, mass communication, or journalism. Book reviews should be submitted along with complete bibliographic details, including publisher, year of publication, edition, page count, price, and a photograph of the book cover.
