Brief Profile

Prof. (Dr.) Pramod Kumar is the head of the Department of Strategic Communication in Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) Deemed to be University. IIMC’s PG degree programme, MA in Strategic Communication, launched by him in 2024, has widely been applauded by the media students and professionals. Prof. Kumar is also Dean Students Welfare and Head, Department of Outreach Activities since November 2020. He is a member of the IIMC Society, Executive Council and Academic Council. He is editor of IIMC’s prestigious UGC-CARE listed Hindi research journal ‘Sanchar Madhyam’ since November 2020. He headed the Placements Cell in IIMC from 2020 to 2023 and served as Course Director of Urdu Journalism from 2020 to 2024.

As a researcher, Prof. Kumar has written over 60 Research Papers on different issues concerning the media and Indian Knowledge System in mass communication. These papers have been published in various reputed national and international research journals. He has delivered lectures in more than 100 national & international seminars, workshops, and Faculty Development Programmes.

Prof. Kumar started his academic career in February 2020 from the Centre for Deendayal Upadhyaya Studies, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala. In October 2020, he joined the Indian Institute of Mass Communication as a Professor in the Department of English Journalism. He has supervised the Ph.D. of two research scholars.

• Post Graduate degrees in Journalism & Mass Communication and Political Science
• Advanced Diploma in Urdu language from University of Delhi
• Ph.D. in Journalism

Experience

Prof. Kumar has been a seasoned journalist with over 30 years’ experience in print media. He has published extensively in English, Hindi, and Urdu languages, demonstrating his linguistic versatility and cultural insight. Over his prolific career, he has written over 3,500 articles, reports, and features, and interviewed more than 200 prominent personalities from India & abroad.

Many of his news stories have been documented in the Parliament Library, New Delhi. His popular column, ‘The Trendsetter’ featured in ‘Organiser’ from 2013 to 2018, highlighted the success stories of unsung heroes working in remote areas of India. Besides his long association with ‘Organiser’ and ‘Panchjanya’, he has contributed articles extensively to around two dozen leading daily newspapers nationwide.

Prof. Kumar has been an accredited journalist with Govt of Delhi (1998-2020), member of Delhi Press Accreditation Committee (2014-2016) & Central Press Accreditation Committee, PIB, Govt of India (2016-2018).
